Annual Alumni Meet-2017
Seventh Annual Alumni Meet of RIE Alumni Association, Bhubaneswar, was held on 24th.December,2017 (Sunday) at RIE auditorium.120 participants from Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand ,Sikkim and Manipur, attended. Prof A.C.Sahoo, former Head of Odia department ,RIE was the Chief Guest and Prof P.C.Agarwal , Principal RIE, Bhubaneswar was the guest of honour. The meet was very enjoyable with cultural items and a delicious lunch. It was a unique opportunity for friends meeting after many years. The pass outs from 1975 to 1980 were felicitated by the Chief Guest. Eight participants enrolled as regular members of the Association.
RISM (Regional Institute Students Meet), 2017-18
RIE, Bhubaneswar, organized the first RISM-2017-18 (Regional Institute Students’ Meet), a programme of NCERT, from January 21-25 which was inaugurated by Dr R.P.Sharma, D.G. of Police Odisha. Students from all RIEs took part in various literary and sports competitions and had a field visit over five days. Justice B.K.Mishra, Chairman, Human Rights Commission, Ms Anuradha Biswal ,Olympian, Prof H.K.Senapaty, Director, NCERT graced the valedictory function on 25th January.
The E.C. members of Alumni Association attended the function on invitation.
Award of Running Shield.
Sponsored by Sri Sahadev Mallick, (A pass out of 1985 and our Asst. Secretary) a running shield has been instituted by the Association for the best house in ‘March Past’ event in the Annual Sports of RIE, Bhubaneswar. This year the shield was awarded to “Shaurya “ House by Ms. Valina Valentina, a national Karate champion and gold medalist, who was the Chief Guest on the valedictory day of the meet on 2nd February,2018.
Seminar on “Vidyasagar and builders of modern Odisha”
We had a seminar entitled ‘Vidyasagar and builders of modern Odisha” in the memory of Late Dr Bishnupada Panda, teaching faculty in Bengali, Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar. The seminar was sponsored by Vidyasagar Smritiraksha Samity, Jharkhand in collaboration with RIE, Bhubaneswar at RIE Conference Hall on 3rd February at 10 am.
Prof. Subas Chandra Panda, former Principal of RIE, Bhubaneswar opened the seminar as the Chief Guest. Dr (Capt.) D.K.Sinha, vice chairman, VSRS, made a power point presentation highlighting the life and works of Vidyasagar in the last part of his life.
Prof.Priyambada Sarkar, Dept.of Philosophy, Prof.Krushna Chandra Bhuyan,Deptt.of Comparative Indian Languages & Literature, both of Calcutta University, Prof.B.K.Panda RIE, Bhubaneswar, Shri Bidyut Pal, Editor ,Bihar Heralod, Patna, Prof.Pramathes Das, President, RIE Alumni Association and Dr..M.M.Samanta spoke on various dimensions of Vidyasagar.

Meeting our retired teachers at their residence
Some of the office bearers of the Alumni Association met Prof M.A.Haque, retired professor of History, RIE, in his Acharya Vihar during the month of January. He is suffering from old age problems and unable to walk. He was extremely pleased to meet his students and recalled his memorable days in the college.
On February 21st, .C.Dash, Secy. D.Parida,advisor and Dr.D.P.Mishra, EC member of the association visited the residence of Prof. BKH Mohapatra, our retired professor in English. He is 84 and unable to move, talks feebly and does not recognize known persons. We felt sorry to find him suffering and prayed God for his recovery.
Alumni Association meets Students’ Council Representatives
We organized a meeting of the class representatives of the Students Council of the Institute to have a friendly relationship with the present students.The meeting held on 5th April at Staff Common Room was attended by 17 class representatives, the Principal, advisors of the council as well as our E.C. members. The Secretary welcomed the students and the President spoke on activities of the Association. The Principal emphasized the merits of an alumni body for any Institution and the activities of our association in particular. The students offered their valuable suggestions for better functioning of the Association and its relation with the present students. They also expressed their willingness for co-operating in activities of the Association.
Meeting with the Director, NCERT
The 54th Annual function of RIE was held on 13th April at 3 pm in the auditorium of the Institute. The E.C. members of our Association had attended the function being invited. Prof. H.K.Senapaty, Director, NCERT graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. We requested Prof.Senapaty for a discussion and he was agree to have a meeting after the function.
We met Prof.Senapaty at the Principal’s office at 5pm Prof. Agarwal, Principal was present. Shri C.Dash,Secy, B.K.Rout,,Jt.Secy, G.C.Swain,Org.Secy, Dr.D.P.Mishra,EC member and Prof.D.Parida advisor joined the discussion. The points of discussion were,
1) Status of proposed NCERT Bill-2017 for INI status to NCERT.
2) Opening of PG innovative courses like M.Sc.Ed.and B.Ed-M.Ed. at the Institute.
3) Accommodation of old students attending Annual Alumni Meet in the New Guest House and Sarojinee Hostel.
4) Filling of vacant teaching posts.
5) Enhance students’ scholarship and the facility for all students of the Institute.
6) Placement of out- going students in reputed organizations like KVS, JNV etc
7) Construction of a new hostel for students.
The discussion was cordial and the Director assured suitable steps.
Meeting the final year students in Hostels
The representatives of the Association had a meeting with the final year students of B.A.B.Ed.,B.Sc.B.Ed.,B.Ed.and M.Ed. courses in Gopabandhu and Homibhava Hostels on 19th May evening. Dr.S.K .Dash, Chief warden,Dr Gourama,(warden, Gopabandhu Hostel) and Dr.R.K.Mahalik ( Wardwn,Homibhava Hostel )were present. We appraised the students the tasks before the Association and requested them to join its activities as they would be alumni of the great Institute shortly. Their response was encouraging
Prafulla Kumar Behera , B.Sc.B.Ed.,1979 batch, passed away on 16th June while under treatment of cancer at AIIMS, New Delhi. It is a great loss for us as he was an active member of the Association. Representatives of Alumni Assn. visited his residence at Balakati on 26th June to attend the 11th day ritual and offered the letter of condolence of the Association
Dr.Nagendra Pradhan is no more-
Our retired teacher in Odia, Dr.Nagendra Pradhan, passed away on 26th June , while he was under treatment at Apollo Hosp. Bhubaneswar , at the age of 83. He was an eminent scholar in Odia literature ,got his D.Litt. from Utkal University and was a guide for many research scholars. He authored many books on literature.
